“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”
On 23, 29 September and 5 October, our Training Manager at the V&A Waterfront conduct very in-depth focus group training sessions discussing being a leader as a security manager. Our Training Manger, JJ van Rooyen, wrote this Leadership Development Training Manual that is bespoke to the V&A Waterfront and the role that Wolf Security Solutions fulfills there. The purpose was not only to develop our managers’ skills but to identify leadership potential in the ranks and strengthen the team as a whole. This Leadership Training course was completed by our 12 precinct supervisors and shift managers who look after the V&A Waterfront contract.
Some of the topics and content the course covered includes:
- Supervisory discipline – being an influential supervisor: The sum of virtues, values and traits equals good character, which, in addition to competence and commitment, is one of the 3 ingredients that make a leader effective and respected.
- The type of character we want to enhance in our managers: Grit, Curiosity, Self-control, Social intelligence, Zest, Optimism, Gratitude
- Situational awareness: At a high level, situational awareness involves knowing what is going on around you at any given time. Achieving situational awareness relies on your ability to see, understand and analyse the world around you in the context of what you are trying to do.
- And much more insightful scenario based examples and lessons.
Thank you to everyone who attended and especially to JJ van Rooyen who shared his vision of true leadership through his excellent work! We are so proud to see the V&A Waterfront team develop and grow. As you implement your newfound knowledge, may it lead to more stories of service excellence on the ground, where it matters.
